Kumho Tyre has again won the coveted International Forum Design Award for 2026 (iF Design Award). The iF Design Award is organised by the IF International Forum Design in Germany and is recognised as one of the world’s top three design awards alongside the German Red Dot Design Award and the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in the United States. More than 11,000 entries from 72 countries were submitted this year, and the judging panel comprising 132 international experts selected the ultimate winners. Kumho Tyre won the Product Concepts category for its radical Omni Ring concept, a modular tyre which has been designed for future mobility and is characterised by its ability to move in all directions. The Kumho Omni Ring features various patterns that deliver optimal performance depending on driving conditions and demands. In urban indoor settings, a dense herringbone pattern ensures noise reduction and energy efficiency while for inter-city motorway travel, it features a durable block pattern that enhances performance at high speeds, and enables efficient mobility in future urban environments. Kumho Tyre’s head of R&D, Young-Jin Kim, said the company has pursued a wide range of R&D initiatives in line with the rapidly evolving mobility industry. “We will further strengthen our R&D capabilities to deliver sustainable and responsible mobility solutions for the future, based on innovative design and advanced technology,” said Kim. Kumho Tyre has started 2026 with what it is declaring as its best and most comprehensive spread of adventure-ready Road Venture tyres ever, enabling vehicles and drivers to handle anything that the harsh Australian environment and conditions can throw at them. Global tyre maker, Kumho Tyre has announced the construction of a new European tyre manufacturing plant as part of the company’s strategy to expand its global production footprint and accelerate growth across the European market. The new European facility will be built at Opole in Poland and is scheduled to begin initial operations by August 2028, pending investment and regulatory approval. The first phase will support an annual production capacity of six million tires, with expansions planned according to market demand at a total investment of $AUD884 million (US$587 million). Kumho evaluated several European countries, including Poland, as potential locations for the new plant, assessing factors such as site suitability, sales growth potential, investment stability, profitability, and available incentives.

Kumho Tyre Australia has announced it will be recommitting to Hockey Australia as an official national partner, signing a new one-year deal running through the end of 2026. The agreement extends and strengthens the existing partnership after the previous renewal in 2023. Kumho Tyre will continue to support hockey at all levels - from grassroots clubs and community competitions to elite national teams such as the Kookaburras and the Hockeyroos - providing valuable backing for domestic growth and international success.
